Experimentation of Dracthyr

Tanks

  • Infused Strikes is the tank ability all three bosses use. Every melee attack applies a stack of this.
  • When two people with Infused Strikes touch, it clears the debuff putting a 20 second DoT on the entire raid.
  • Never clear Infused Strikes while the 20 second DoT is still active.

Phase One

Neldris is the first of three bosses in this encounter. Spread around him to limit the amount of movement players have to do. He will mark a few players with an arrow. These players should be close to each other with no one else near them. This is so the bosses Rending Charge doesn’t cleave any extra players.
The other two mechanics to watch out for are Bellowing Roar which requires players to run away from him, and Massive Slam, which is a frontal cone attack targeted towards a random player. Once this boss is killed, get ready to pop cooldowns and get through the next phase as quickly as possible.

Phase Two

Thadrion is by far the most dangerous boss if left alive for too long. This is because of the debuff Unstable Essence, which he puts on a player roughly 20 seconds into this phase. Whenever this debuff is cleansed it will spawn an Erratic Remnant that needs killing and the debuff will jump to another player. By itself this isn’t too big an issue, however he will eventually an additional debuff every so often, at which point the raid has to juggle several debuffs and waste time killing Erratic Remnants. Ideally you have one or two Unstable Essence‘s floating around and that is why saving cooldowns and using Heroism/Bloodlust in this phase is advised.
During this part of the fight Thadrion will also channel Violent Eruptions which is 8 seconds of intense damage to the group that needs healing through. Players with Unstable Essence will see their health drop extremely quickly due to the extra damage from the debuff, but healers should never cleanse any Unstable Essence before this channel. This is because if an Erratic Remnant takes damage from a Violet Eruption, they will also cause an additional explosion of damage to all players. The boss will use Volatile Spew which just requires players to dodge several large swirls. Once this boss has been defeated, it is usually a good time to refresh Unstable Essence‘s while the boss transitions.

Phase Three

Rionthus is the boss and compared to Thadrion, is much easier to deal with. During this phase your team still need to deal with the Unstable Essence‘s and killing the Erratic Remnant‘s. He will target players and cast Disintegrate, which just requires players spread out as it does AOE damage to nearby players. The boss will also spawn Temporal Anomaly‘s, which are golden orbs that slowly move towards Rionthus. If they reach him they will heal him for 20% of his total health. To stop this, players just need to stand in between the boss and it. It will bounce back off the player, dealing a small amount of damage. More spawn as the fight continues, so the quicker you kill him the better.
The only other ability Rionthus does is his Deep Breath attack. He flies to one section of the area and flies across firing dragon breath over one third of the area. this is deadly but easy to avoid. He will then fly to another section and do this again. He always picks the section that has the most players on it to fly over. He is still attackable during this, but very hard to hit and can be dangerous to try. Keep an eye on Unstable Essence‘s and Erratic Remnant‘s during this as it’s often a good time to clear them.
