Tanks

Healers

  • Spot heal the players with the Overheated and Cauterizing Wound debuffs.
  • Smolderon pulses more fire damage in phase two, be prepared to pop cooldowns as necessary.
  • After every phase two, there is a stacking damage ramp, so more healing will be needed further into the fight.

DPS

  • Keep an eye on positioning, especially just after Brand of Damnation. This is when Flame Waves spawn and positioning for Lava Geysers is essential to reduce area denial.
  • Grab all five orbs in phase two, saving damage cooldowns when possible for this.

Phase One

Shortly after the pull, half the group will have a small circle under them. These players should spread out near the edge of the area. The remaining players should all move towards the tank, as they should help soak Brand of Damnation. Smolderon uses Brand of Damnation twice per phase, and soaking more than one will likely kill you due to the vulnerability debuff it leaves.
After the soak, healers will be spot healing those with the Cauterizing Wound debuff. This will leave a patch on the floor that erupts, move off of them, and position with the group ready for Lava Geysers. While this is happening, the other half of the group will have Flame Waves spawning and shooting out in several directions. These do moderate damage and knock players back.
Players should position themselves together for Lava Geysers, as they leave lava puddles on the floor for the remainder of the encounter. If players stand in bad positions they can bait lava puddles that cause issues for the entire group. For this reason, nobody should ever stand in the centre of the room. After this has cycled twice, phase two will begin.

Phase Two

At the beginning of this phase, Smolderon will run to the centre of the room and slam the ground, knocking everyone back and spawning 5 orbs for each player that soaked a Brand of Damnation. Leaving these orbs to float into Smolderon will give him a permanent 5% damage buff for each one he absorbs, but collecting them grants the player a 100% damage buff for 20 seconds, making this the ideal time to use Heroism/Bloodlust.
Shortly after knocking players back, Smolderon will then channel World In Flames, This causes random circles of fire to spawn around him, always leaving at least one section safe for the group to stand. If a player gets hit by this, they will take heavy damage and leave a dot on the player causing even more damage every second for ten seconds.
After thirty seconds, the next phase one will commence. This cycle happens four times before Smolderon hits his soft enrage and begins to continuously channel World In Flames without any safe position.

Glossary

Brand of Damnation

Smolderon aims at his main target, after 3 seconds striking them for deadly fire damage split between all players within 9 yards. This leaves all players hit with the Cauterizing Wound debuff, the main target is also hit with the Searing Aftermath debuff. If Brand of Damnation doesn’t hit at least 5 players, Smolderon will gain a stack of Heating Up.

Cauterizing Wound

A healing absorb left on players struck by Brand of Damnation. Healing it away, or leaving it to end drops a Cauterized Explosion on the floor.

Cauterized Explosion

A ground explosion that deals massive damage to anyone within 6 yards.

Searing Aftermath (Heroic)

After Brand of Damnation strikes, the main target will be left with a 6 second debuff. After the timer expires they will explode for deadly damage, reduced by the distance from this player.

Emberscar’s Mark

A mark left after Brand of Damnation. If players are hit by another Brand of Damnation in the current phase, they will take 500% more damage from it.

Overheated

Several players will be marked with small circles under their feet. anyone within the circle will take light damage for 10 seconds, and then erupt with Flame Waves flying out in several directions.

Flame Waves (Heroic)

Fire tornadoes that cause heavy damage and knock back any player that they hit.

Lava Geysers

Swirls that appear under players feet shortly after Overheated ends. These swirls leave Smoldering Ground, a permanent puddle on the floor that limits the playable area for the remainder of the fight.

Smoldering Ground

Lava puddles on the floor that persist for the remainder of the fight. These do heavy damage every second any player stands in them.

Blistering Heat

Damage every 3 seconds for the entire fight. This damage builds up over time, making the fight harder to heal the longer it continues.

Seeking Inferno (Mythic)

Infernos that move towards the player they target. If they reach the target, or after 30 seconds they erupt, dealing moderate damage to all players, and putting a debuff on them making further infernos deal 2000% more damage for 3 seconds.

Inferno (Mythic)

If the Seeking Inferno reaches the player, it also puts a dot on them, causing moderate damage every second for 4 seconds.

Devour Essence

When phase two starts, Smolderon smashes the ground, knocking back all players and causing damage. Anyone marked with Emberscar’s Mark will also have 5 orbs spawn that move towards Smolderon.

Living Flame

These are the orbs spawned when Devour Essence is cast. These orbs do a small amount of damage when collected, and buff the player with Ignited essence. If they reach Smolderon they give him a permanent 5% damage buff for the remainder of the fight.

Ignited Essence

When players collect Living Flame, they get take a small amount of damage and gain a 20% damage buff for 20 seconds. This stacks 5 times.

Lingering Flame

Any player hit with World In Flame receives this fire debuff causing heavy fire damage every second for 10 seconds.

World In Flames

Smolderon channels for 30 seconds causing fire rings around the platform. There is always at least one safe section before his soft enrage, but players caught in it take heavy fire damage and gain the Lingering Burn debuff.

Heating Up

Every time Smolderon reaches 100 energy he bursts into flames increasing his fire damage done by 10%. When he reaches 4 stacks he casts Encroaching Destruction.

Encroaching Destruction

When Smolderon reaches 4 stacks of Heating Up, he will continuously cast World In Flames until either every player is dead, or he is. This acts as his enrage.

Blistering Heat

All players take moderate fire damage every 3 seconds while in combat with Smolderon.

Blazing Soul (Heroic)

In phase two, Smolderon’s Blistering heat changes from every 3 seconds to 1 second, and the damage is increased by 70%.
